These kaftans are made from handwoven 100% organic cotton material from a group of women weaver’s I found during my last trip to India. The organisation’s name is Taanbaan which works to promote the handspun handloom vocation which is currently under threat from mass production. The materials they create hope to preserve the skills, aesthetic sense and traditions of India while encouraging fair trade and women’s place in the work force. The unique fabrics are created with natural dyes and hand spun threads- qualities are limited so these are one of a kind pieces. These are thicker garments so great for the coming fall season when nights are little chilly.
This garment falls around the ankle with slits up the knee to give you a little more freedom. There’s hand embroidered detail along the edges trimming the kaftan. It’s amazingly soft and absorbent if used poolside. The neckline has clasps so it can be as low cut as desired. The waist is fitted maxing at 50cm wide so it’s a bit fitted and has a lovely shape. Works for lounging around the house/cottage, to the beach and also walking around town. The fabric is a dense weave so prefect for those that want more of a cover up and can be worn as a dress. A great boho look!
