Summer Happenings

Posted by tracey powers erkkila on

This summer there’s lots of new kaftans and summer beach bound goodies. I found some amazing fabrics last time I was in India from this weaver’s group called Women Weaves based out of Maheshwar. Truly amazing organisation and a labour of love for textiles. Started by a royal (yes that’s correct) American and Indian couple from the area, many years ago they wanted to bring back traditional weaving traditions that were disappearing. The targeted local ladies in the community and started with 70 looms. Today they have 700! Local ladies from villages in the surrounding community work either at weaving locations or in their homes. They are provided weaving education to increase their skill sets, child care and all the proper employee benefits etc. It was an amazing place! Here’s a peek at some of the lovely items we created….

And here’s the link to the hotel I stayed…it was actually part of a palace!!!!! Totally recommend. They boating me out to the centre of the universe for tea…
