I've been meaning to write this for a while. Not as a report: just as an honest account of something I'm genuinely proud of, and that I think you might find interesting. Over the past eight years, every purchasing decision I've made has been guided by one question: Does this support the people who actually make it? Looking back at the numbers now, the answer is yes, and I want to share what that looks like in practice.
Four crafts, one supply chain.
Everything we sell has a handmade element. Our block-printed clothing comes from a single workshop in Jaipur: a partnership we've maintained for eight years, producing 8,700 garments and investing €172,910 directly into that community. Our woven and embroidered pieces support hand-loom weavers and, in 20% of cases, artisans doing intricate hand embroidery. In total, we have directed €269,548 into Indian artisan communities since 2017: across block printing, hand-loom weaving, hand embroidery, and handmade paper craft.
Rescuing what would otherwise be lost.
One of the things I'm most proud of is what we've done with vintage textiles since 2022. We've rescued approximately 903 kantha blankets: each one a piece of mid-20th century Bengali craft: from landfill, and transformed them into new pieces. That's over a ton of irreplaceable heritage textile given a second life. The environmental impact behind this is significant, too. Our rescued textiles alone represent an estimated 32,000 kg of CO2 emissions avoided and 11.4 million litres of water saved: equivalent to the drinking water needs of around 12,500 people for a year.
Why I'm sharing this.
When you buy from us, whether you're stocking our pieces or choosing them for yourself, you are part of this. These numbers exist because of your support over the years, and I wanted you to see what they add up to....and to say thank you!
